Narcissa rolled onto her stomach and reached for her wristwatch on the bedside table. With a quick glance, she was able to see (with the help of her wand) that it was quarter to midnight. A deep sigh escaped her lips as she rolled onto her back once more. She was now looking up at the canopy of her bed, like she had been doing for the past hour. Narcissa could not remember the last time insomnia had affected her; she generally fell asleep at the same time every night. There wasn't anything she hadn't eaten or done that would keep her up this late, or at least nothing she could remember. Jealousy had hit her when she heard her other dorm mates sleeping peacefully in their beds, completely unaware that Narcissa Black was wide awake. Maybe the girl in the bed beside Narcissa, who was snoring ever so loudly, was actually keeping her up? Cissa knew this girl had a snoring problem, however she was generally asleep before she ever heard the girl. Now she knew why her other three dorm mates were constantly yelling at the poor girl.
She had enough; she couldn't take it any longer. Instead of smothering the girl with a pillow, Narcissa simply slipped her feet into her slippers and placed a robe over her night gown. What she was about to do was completely against school rules, but Narcissa had to escape her dormitory. She could simply retreat to the common room, but it was cold and lonely in there and rather creepy at this hour. Narcissa tip-toed down the stairs leading up to the girls dormitory and made way towards the exit of the Slytherin house in a rather quick jog. The fire had gone out, and being that the common room was underneath the lake, the room was pitch black. The only source of light she had was from the tip of her wand, and even then there wasn't much light.
The castle at night was such a sight to see and once Narcissa had left the dungeons, she knew it wasn't long before she reached her destination. No longer did she need her wand; the moon light shone in through the windows that she passed. She stayed close to the wall opposite the windows, for if someone was to pass by Naricssa could easily hide behind the large, stone columns that lit the hallways during the school hours. But from what she could see, and hear, there was no one in sight. She continued down the rather long hallway, constantly on her toes (figuratively), ready to hide if needed.
But there was no need to hide since Narcissa had made it to her destination unseen. She tickled the pear on the canvas before her, and then the doorway to the kitchen had opened. The large room was dark and bare since the house elves were not needed to make food. The four long tables that represented the four houses of Hogwarts were set with plates, silver wear, etc. but it would be several more hours before those plates were actually on the tables above. The room lit up as soon as Narcissa had stepped inside however it was nearly five minutes before an elf made its way to help her. "Milk and a chocolate chip cookie." she ordered, not fully aware that the elf had come to tell her she wasn't allowed there. But Narcissa wasn't going to take no for an answer. She demanded to be served, telling the elf she hadn't had any dinner. Cissa had also threatened the elf, though she wasn't sure how effective it was. But a few minutes later Narcissa was given what she wanted. A smile came across her plump lips though she did not thank the elf at all. He was a servant and there was no need to thank someone of that status. She sat at the closest table with her back towards the rest of the kitchen and entrance, and picked at her cookie. She wasn't even hungry, she just needed to get out of that room.
