It would be seen as an odd friendship by some, that that Rose and Eileen shared, and it would be seen so by those in the world Rose had always known and that she had learned about through her daughter, for different reasons, whether the fact that she was no witch or that Eileen was considered a dark witch, almost the bad fairy in the tales she had grown up on and passed on to her daughters. But none of that mattered a jot to Rose Evans, Eileen was a neighbour, a neighbour whose son had been close to one of her daughters since they were nine, that and the fact that Eileen had brought Severus up as well as she could with the way things had been with her husband…well her Harold was a social worker and he had seen people do less for their children in more favourable circumstances, that Eileen had done as she had and had a closer relationship with her son now for it was something to be admired. The jealousy over magic was something that was not reserved to husband and wife was the sad thing, whatever Lily had picked up from her and Harold in her genes, Petunia had missed out on and that had caused friction between her girls. She was sure that Petunia marrying Vernon Dursley, who had an intolerance for anything that was at all different, had not helped matters any, but she would not say that in front of her.
It had been second nature for Rose to look after Severus when he had needed it, she loved her girls with all of her heart, but she always had love to spare for a child that needed it. She would have taken Severus and Eileen in if it would have helped any, Severus could certainly have done with being away from that home, but to do so through the means Harold could use would also have taken him away from Eileen and Lily, however much Severus didn’t know the former was as good for him as the latter, he had been antisocial, if they had taken him away from those influences…well from what she had learned about the wizarding world, it seems that Severus would have had a rival had he gone the way he might have done, but it was an idea that they could not entertain. She and Harold had known what had been going on in that household for a good while, Lily had learned because she had listened at the stairs, and had had Severus’ own word for it besides. It had been stormy out sometimes, and worse inside, Lily had snuck Severus in because the fact was that he had preferred being in the wet to being in what had turned into a warzone whose latest battle was playing out, Rose had had a discussion with her daughter after that and the end result of that was that Severus had a key to the home. After the first time he had used it, Rose had left a blanket in the cupboard and a glass of milk with a plate of homemade cookies on the table the next time it was storming, just in case. When she had got home the day after she had found a box of chocolates on the kitchen table that must have been whatever pocket money Severus had had for a month. She’d hugged him for that and told him it wasn’t necessary, but thank you. She had been more than happy to see Tobias gone, and would have packed his bags for him and given him a ringing in his ears if he had been slow about it once things had got that way. What she had done was to tell Eileen that she was always welcome for a drink and a conversation in her home or the coffee shop she owned, she had needed support as much as her son in her own way.
She had had it explained to her that there was a powder that allowed travel between fireplaces, and she preferred to keep her home warm in any case, so there was little doubt that she would keep the heath burning, if someone needed a conversation or to get home quickly, well she was not going to begrudge them that. Rose had tended to cook a little more than was needed, especially at the moment being as the snow was something one could only be in for so long really and it was a way of filling her time. She was…cordial to Vernon, and she loved Petunia no less than she ever had, but that man had proved himself to be somewhat of a…well it was somewhat fortunate that Severus had baked an extra cake on the strength of his and Lily’s opinion of him at the wedding and brought it over after the car had left. She smiled warmly as Eileen greeted her and gestured towards cookies that had cooled on the rack as she folded a tea towel to put it away, “Hullo Eileen. How are things?” She didn’t tend to raise her own voice too often and kept it at the tone she was spoken to in. She caught the amusement in Eileen’s tone, “Oh yes? Lily happened to mention headgirl duties and little else.” There was no rancour in her voice, being honest it would be hard for Lily to shock her after an incident in the library when she was ten, and having been told by Petunia that she could have babies through kissing, having caught Lily and Severus doing just that, Lily had dragged Severus with her to find the books she needed to write a report on the actual…‘process’. A report which Petunia had promptly turned in to Rose, Rose hadn’t known whether to laugh or clip the pair of them behind the ear, as little use she had for physical discipline and had wound up grounding the pair of them. “So what have our not so little darlings been up to?”

A MAN CAN TELL A THOUSAND LIESI"VE LEARNED MY LESSON WELL- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - she answered with a chuckle. "Just..Headgirl duties ?" Eileen arched a brow after having a bite of the cookie. Eileen had given her son a look over the whole babies things, if he'd asked she'd have explained to to them. She thought they were too young to be concerning themselves with such things at ten. Still Severus knew better than to attempt all the things he read, and Lily much the same. She had found it amusingly sweet that the two had been caught kissing, though she did have some of the concerns Rose did. Lily told her strait out what she'd done and why. Lily didn't often tell fibs to her parents, never saw a reason to and Eileen was a second mum to her. Eileen had been amused and asked them how much they actually understood of what they'd written and read. Mostly it was clinical to them, and made only so much sense that was how it should be, so she hadn't bothered to punish her son. He would have taken the blame for Lily she knew, if he could have. Eileen laughed softly at the not so little darlings comment. "Ah, well..I suspect there sneaking off together, since I caught Severus in the wee hours slipping out and well I couldn't scold him, I knew who he was sneaking out to see he'd done it for years, I am just surprised they didn't tell us." she explained softly. "Think somethings going on were not being told about, Rosie." she wasn't angry or hurt she sounded actually amused. "I told him I'd give him a days head start." she smirked. "So I did..I don't know wither to be worried or surprised that Lily, didn't mention it." she said with a shake of her head. Rose understood that there were certain things going on in the wizarding world that were going on, buttons that were being pushed. From her limited understanding, it felt uncomfortably like a war that muggles had already very recently lived through. It was a concern, Lily going back to that school, but she could also understand why Lily would want to, and why she would take her part in the times to come. Rose had known how in tune Severus had been with Lily, it had been somewhat uncanny the one or two times she had been awake to see Lily sneak out, Severus had turned up just at that moment and Lily had seemed almost surprised. The particulars of his birth and the gift that gave him, Rose had felt that that was odd even in a magical world, but it was something she hadn’t questioned. She knew that things were rough in Eileen’s home, Lily had learned to go into that home when Tobias was away, for the most part, and she would visit with her when she could though Tobias was too often back before she closed up shop, it was why she had nudged Eileen into coming for a drink when she could. It hurt Rose that the issue of one of her daughters having this gift, one that she would never seek to deny her if she could, and one of them not had caused strife between them. Petunia and Lily had had their issues to a degree before that, though there was nothing that could not be put down to the two siblings acting their age. She and Harold did treat them the same, it was why she had scolded Petunia, married or no, for throwing the present at Lily, especially given that it was over having people over, as Petunia had brought her husband. Rose would never tell her daughters they could not marry who they chose, but she could not help but feel her eldest had chose money over love, but that was something she would have to live with. A mother’s place was to be there if her children needed her, not to dictate their lives.
There had been little else that Rose could have done but look after Severus. So of course she washed his clothes, and she bought him better suited ones, someone needed to and she and Harold were comfortable enough with money that it was not really noticed any more than buying the girls new clothes would be. She would always have time for him, she had made that clear to him, it was plain to see who the cause of the problems was and it was not Eileen, it was why they had not set about bringing social services in for Severus. She knew that Lily had an affect on the dark haired boy, and she did her best to surround him with comfort and acceptance on her own part, to be someone to cry to if that was needed, or give him a good talking to if that was what was necessary. She could not fix what was going on in the home, she could only be there to do what she could. Like Eileen, he was always welcome in her coffee nook, and in her home. Rose knew very much what she would like to do to Tobias, and if he would have ever come into her coffee nook…well it would have taken but one bad word about Severus or Eileen and he would have been wearing his order. For a start. She was fairly sure she would also have the witnesses to convince the police that he had had a nasty accident and really should be more careful while she gave the officer a refill. She was not a Slytherin or in love with one, but she was a formidable woman if the need came.
Rose had been a fairly quick learner over the floo powder, and had held on tight enough when it came to apparition, being as if it were as she understood it, she would not want to be let go of if she had no sort of capability over it, who knew where her different body parts could end up? Rose was always glad of the company, especially with one daughter married and another still at school, so Eileen was never going to be unwelcome on that count. Nor was Severus’ addition to the Christmas dinner, though she had chosen not to mention when one of her plates had stealthily floated itself out of the cupboard seemingly of its own accord. She nodded as Eileen said that things were going as they always were, sometimes it was better not to ask for detail, Rose would just know when she needed to for Eileen’s sake. At Eileen’s question over headgirl duties, she said, “I believe she said something about buying enough candy to put an elephant into sugarshock, but other than that, yes.” She had not been amused with the story as to how Lily had been put up to writing that report, though it was sweet that she and Severus had been caught kissing, it was why Petunia had gotten an extra week of being grounded for all her trouble taken in dropping Lily and Sev in it. She knew that they would not altogether understand what they had learned in anything more than a clinical way and that had kept her from overly worrying about it. She gave a soft hmm, “Well if there’s anyone I would expect her to be going to be with, it would be Severus.” She didn’t altogether mind that fact, that they had snuck out was a touch irksome, but still, they had always been close. She ran her tongue along her teeth for a moment as she thought, “Hmm, I think I’m more surprised they felt the need to not tell us, not so worried if it is indeed Severus Lily is with and curious enough to do something about finding out, I feel.”

A MAN CAN TELL A THOUSAND LIESI"VE LEARNED MY LESSON WELL- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - it would be a well paying job he could fall back on if something ever happened to her and Tobias, and he wouldn't have to depend on others.if they had taken Severus from her it would have taken the last of her fight from her and she likely wouldn't have been around to see what Severus had become. She knew all to well that Lily kept him stable, and that the brief contact and what teachings she could give showed him kept him entertained. Eileen would not have fought them taking her son only because yes he'd be better off on a level of being taken care of, but not mentally she knew that Severus would never be like his father.Eileen had been born from a line of Purebloods, the Le'Fay's her father was a Prince though he had not had any other children. The line had died out with Eileen. Though that wasn't really so since her son Severus still lived. She knew very well what Rose would have done to her husband, and she'd have applauded it. She wasn't fond of her estranged husband and felt now that she had a chance to get out of the situation her son mostly grown she had little to fear. Eileen was very patient but like her son, wasn't always the most socially gifted person. She had warnned Rose what could happen if she didn't have the place firm in mind and stepped into the Floo she could wind up..anywhere. Well anywhere that had a fireplace. And taking her with her when she was appartating well there had been the warning that if she let go, they'd have to go find those missing parts of her.She didn't keep the truth from her dearest friend. It was dangerous to be certain. Rose was in tune with her kitchen and use to keeping an eye on her littlest girl who had before Hogwarts had a habit of things going weird around her. Severus didn't like to draw alot of attention to himself and Eileen didn't blame him either it was simply how it was at home. To much attention got you yelled at or worse. "Oh, splendid good thing neither of our little ones like candy all that much." she said with a chuckle. Eileen had been the one who had asked the children what they had done and why they had done it. She was comfortable with the answer. Of course Severus as usual tried to take the blame for Lily, though the red-haired girl wouldn't have it. She might as well have just punished the both of them since punishing one was like punishing the other is actually effected them both. That they'd been kissing was something that made the older witch smile. She suspected that he would have to pick the girl he liked otherwise no one else would be able to get through to him. Eileen had begun to teach her son Potions as soon as she could when Tobias being missing allowed. That Lily showed as much an interest had touched her and between herself and Severus they had taught her the proper things she'd have needed to know to deal with purebloods, and enough hexes as well. She had every plan to teach Rose what she knew too. Well the things she could anyways, she wasn't sure how Rose missed out on being a witch, she'd have made a fine one. She helped herself to another cookie and chewed it thoughtfully at Roses answer. "Well I would think so too, otherwise I doubt Severus would have been in a mood enough to give a hug before he went." she said in reguards to it being Lily he was going with. "Well, they were rather close to one another this Christmas, whispering to each other, though I take that more as how I suppose they are in school. It was never uncommon to see them leaned close to each other studiously looking at the same thing. " she said with a slight smile. "Like making flowers bloom." she knew Rose knew about that. "Still it has the feel of being up to something about it, what I can't put my finger on, but than again sometimes I forget, seventeen years and your an adult in the wizarding world." she said with a sigh. "Maybe because its been so many years since I was seventeen." she chuckled softly. "Feels like two lifetimes ago." she said. Steepling her fingers in a similar manner to her son, she flashed Rose a smirk. "So how long do you think we should give them ?"[/ul] HOPE I LIVE TO TELL THE SECRETS I HAVE HEARD Rose music! All the Things She Said-Tatu words!1477 graphics!me template!me notes!nope [/ul]

Rose knew bits and pieces, perhaps more than some might give her credit for given that she had caught Lily and Severus suddenly stopping talking about something more than once. Then there were the leaflets the Ministry of Magic had sent the parents of muggleborn students which Lily had scoffed at. She had seen the ones the government had sent out in the last muggle war, though she was not quite a wartime baby, it was not something that she imagined should be taken lightly. Oh those leaflets, they were certainly worrying and gave very little, if any, information that could really be used short of try to stay out of the way and good luck to you, just dressed up in flowery language. She had been worried about Lily going back to school, but she knew that if it were her, she would not be letting someone tell her to stay away either. As far as she saw it, if those trying to do something about this mess were not supported, if they fell, then those who had stayed out of it, the loved ones of those who had fallen, they were next in any case. Rose had known for a good while that Lily was sneaking out, she had been concerned by it and had lain awake to wait for her the first time, but she had come back safe before Rose had gone looking for her, and it had been more than obvious that she had been close with Severus, and she had not been surprised when the young boy had turned up the next time she knew. Of course letting him in when it was stormy, both outside and in the home, had not been a huge step as it might have been, he was already a part of Lily’s life and Rose would not hinder that, other than the fact she would not see a child sleeping at the mercy of the elements. Rose loved Petunia, she always had, she always would. There were no favourites with her, but at the same time it hurt her that she could see in her what others said wisely out of her earshot. She would scold as easily also if she were given cause to by either of her girls, but the love of a mother was unconditional, it would not fade. She would not be cowed by Petunia’s husband either. He didn’t abuse her, Rose would have seen to it he wouldn’t have done for long had he tried, but she was not impressed by money nor intimidated by…the size that comes with one liking their food.
There were no thanks needed over her looking out for Severus, she had not done so for gratitude or favours, or the friendship of another though that was certainly a bonus she valued dearly, it was simply something anyone who called herself a mother could, should have been able to do. If Eileen would have accepted money from her, Rose would have given it to her, she had no problem with looking out for Severus the way his father wouldn’t though. A child’s food, clothes and shoes should not be drunk away in Rose’s opinion and she would never have knowingly let Severus go without whatever anyone else said. She didn’t push for Severus to be taken away, though there were channels Harold could have gone down, because she saw the woman in unguarded moments with her son, she knew what he meant to her, she knew what Lily meant to Severus too, but to interfere would have hurt two people who did not deserve it. Looking after Severus was simply her way of feeling better about the situation she couldn’t do anything about. There was no fear of Severus being like his father, though she knew that he had left his mark, a woman who did not feel she could make it up enough to her son and the resentment that son felt towards his father who frankly had been lucky Severus had never lashed out magically in anger with forces a nine or ten year old could not fully understand. There were very few people that Rose would seek to deal harm but she would have in Tobias’ case, she had a Temper, capital letter fully deserved, and she had seen how his actions had ground down two people, it wouldn’t take much for her temper to rise to the surface with him.
Rose had listened carefully to Eileen’s warnings. Oh her friend might not have been the most socially gifted about it, but this was a world that Rose did not know, she figured if there were warnings, there were good reasons for them and she was always going to heed them. She’d always come out where she’d intended and, in the case of being a passenger with apparition, in one piece up until now. She trusted Eileen, that was not going to change. Rose was never going to have the wool pulled over her eyes in her own kitchen, but she understood that with the environment at home, Severus had every reason not to draw attention to himself, and it was one plate to add to the meal so she was never going to make an issue of it. She nodded, “It’s the kind of thing Lily would do, so I have no doubt that getting that candy was at least on the agenda.” She had guessed that it was not the full story, but she had not guessed just what else filled in the gaps and had sent Lily on her way with her blessing. Rose had grounded her girls, it had simply needed doing for both of their parts in it, though there was only as much ill feeling as they themselves brought to the table. She had a good guess that the occasional noise on the roof was Severus, but she hadn’t called him on it, she could have, but she knew she was punishing him too in a way without meaning to and didn’t add to that, if he needed the support he was used to, he had it. She accepted at least that Severus and Lily did not know what they had researched in more than a cold facts manner. She too found it sweet that they’d been caught kissing, that was something she could never have been upset with. She would happily learn what she could in terms of what could be taught to her. She did not feel bitter that she had not had a gift that had managed to find her daughter but she was interested, and quite willing to support Lily and do what she could do as opposed to dwell on what she couldn’t. She would not have the knack that Lily and Severus did, but she did understand both cooking and the different natural resources might have, it was as good a basis as any. She couldn’t help an aww at Severus hugging his mother, she had been glad to see the two of them closer once Severus was out of Tobias’ immediate reach, though she did listen and she nodded, “They’ve always been close, but they did seem closer over the holidays.” Rose wouldn’t be surprised if there was something going on there, nor upset now she thought about it. She gave a mild tut, “You’re only as old as you allow yourself to feel.” Rose would never quite be grown up, she suspected that that was something Lily would pick up from her. She chuckled and thought for a moment, “If you’ve given them the day you said you would, then I’m ready whenever you are.” There was a touch of mischief behind Rose’s eyes, “As their mothers we have every right to drop in on them in any case.”

A MAN CAN TELL A THOUSAND LIESI"VE LEARNED MY LESSON WELL- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - she chuckled softly. [colot=purple]"Of course I told her she could have half the kitchen at Spinner's End to keep the two of them from really having a go at it." she was a good witch a really gifted one and it was why the Death Eaters had wanted her. Why they had taken her son who had inherited her gifts with Potion and Dark Arts, Eileen had never lost Rose in her transporting and she was pleased with how well she handled the Floo Powder as well. She was really good to not be a witch. She always knew when Lily was grounded even though that seemed to be a rare occurance. She did know the situation around it and had been quietly amused by the fact. She like Rose was well aware the two of them were not interested in experimenting with there new found knowledge. Nothing outside the shared kisses. Still Lily climbed out onto the roof, and spent time with him there but they had to be very quiet. She didn't have boys in her room late at night all of this Eileen knew from her son whom she had been teaching Legimency and Occulmency to. Eileen also knew the one time that Lily had broken that rule had been when Tobias had beat him within an inch of his life and than she'd insisted and promised to keep the nightmares away if he slept. Severus was so good now that she couldn't get into his thoughts unless she caught him unaware or unprepared which was few and far between.Eileen nodded 'They are close its..different on the magical front for my sight. I mean they seem to share a bond that time has only strengthend. Its like a mingling of silver and gold to me. Silvery being Severus's aura, his will always hold shades of darkness, my own is indigo to my sight. Lily's is bright golden." she tossed her best friend a wink. "Yours is a warm pink." Eileen snorted faintly "Lovely, care to help me pick out a casket, I feel ages old most of the time." EIleen's smirk followed the look in Roses eyes. Well I am betting the only place they'd stay is the Leaky Cauldron since it's right there in Diagon Alley and has a place to eat in it as well s reasonable rooms." she said. "We could always just pop in on them. Seeing as we are there mothers." she laughed. "Think we could give them a proper scare for leaving us out of the loop ?" she inquired as she held out a hand to take Rose with her to the Leaky Cauldron. Rose knew that there were some things that Severus and Lily were reticent on, and if she wanted she could have managed to get more out of them. She had to say that she was concerned by Lily’s career choice, not in a disapproving way, but in the part of her that knew that if muggle police got it as rough as they did, the magical equivalent would be akin to working on the gun squad, it was dangerous and something not to be taken lightly in any time, let alone a time of near war. Still, she knew her daughter, and she knew Severus, they knew what they wanted, what it meant and would not be swayed from their chosen course, they could also handle themselves. Rose had seen them duel and she was smart enough to guess that what she had seen was to their serious duelling what a fencing match was to a real sword fight, it was pretty but it had the potential to be so much more deadly and without flourish if it were meant. She had kept an eye on Severus at first to be sure that he wasn’t setting out to hurt Lily, but she had quickly accepted that he was looking for friendship, and he was always welcome in the coffee nook or her home during the day, and once she had known just what was going on with his father…well she could do nothing less than she had for him. She had most certainly not approved with the result of Petunia spying on Lily and Severus and catching them kissing, she had tried to keep her busy with mother and older daughter stuff whenever she wasn’t out seeing Vernon. She would not say a word against the man, but she would also not tell her friends, and her daughter’s friends, that they could not come into her home at any time just because someone was less than accepting over what they were, that was not Rose at all. Of course she had noticed that magic was used a little casually within his sight, perhaps for more than it might have been, she said nothing of it unless it was about to cause an argument.
Rose had heard about people being abused, she never knew names from her husband though she sometimes did from others in the community, but it had been spoken of, and she had seen downtrodden women in her coffee shop more than once, she had seen the signs of it in Eileen, and in Severus, before she had truly known that something was really wrong in that house. It was why she had sought to grow closer to the mother as well as to the child, they both needed it. Especially if due to the nature of the abuse, they couldn’t support each other, that was the worst thing about sustained abuse, it could make people feel so alone even when there was family there to support them. If Eileen wouldn’t accept money from her then that was entirely her own choice. That didn’t stop Rose from looking out for Severus as much as she could so that it was one stress less for Eileen, and a little more money she could put towards food or herself. It wasn’t really a burden, she’d buy the girls the clothes they wanted or needed and then add something in for Severus, or she’d have Lily invite Severus over and suddenly find the need to go shopping and oh well, he’s here now he might as well tag along and it would be rude to not get him anything. She had found out about what Tobias had done to Severus, she had heard a noise in Lily’s room, and the door was charmed so it would take a considerable push to open. Rose had been about to tell Lily off for having him in her room at night until she saw the state he was in and then the challenge was in getting her not fly off the handle and go straight over to deal with Tobias herself. Severus had needed some seeing to, some care, then when he and Lily were asleep, missing Tobias likely by a couple of minutes, not that she would have cared what pain he was in, more likely added to it, she gone over to tell Eileen that her son was safe and not hiding somewhere anything could happen. There was also the fact that she wanted to see that Eileen was ok and she was staying the night with her and not taking no for an answer.
Rose chuckled, “I’ve heard about it, the two carry on their bickering over here at times.” It was never really meant, she knew that well enough, “Something about a smacked hand I believe and the perils of eating ingredients just as they’re about to go into the bowl.” Of course the two did have a very couply air about them when they were at home or out and about. She and Eileen had also seen the two curled up together and asleep after Christmas dinner, she neither confirmed nor denied that she had placed the blanket over them. She had never been lost by either method of transportation because she had simply listened, and done what she had been told she needed to, that was the only way to go about it when learning anything, let alone something as dangerous as that could be. Lily knew the house rules, she may have friends over during the day, Severus could come over at night, anyone else on a sleepover the same as with Tuney, but boys were not allowed in her room at night. Oh she knew that they wouldn’t take what they had learned as children any further, it was just the way things were. Both girls lived under that same rule, so it was perhaps lucky that Harold had taken Lily’s and Severus’ breakfasts to them in the morning for the sake of harmony in the home. She listened carefully to Eileen, giving a smile at the yin and yang nature of what she saw with Severus and Lily, “The two of them being together shouldn’t really be a surprise then.” She would just have liked to have been informed, but they were teenagers, and of age in their world though Lily could try telling her the latter when she lived under her roof at her own peril. She laughed faintly, catching the wink, “Always a place for warm pink somewhere.” She nodded, “Well I always could help you pick out a casket, or I could see about doing what I can to help you feel younger.” She took Eileen’s hand, holding on as she caught her smirk, “I certainly think their poor dear mothers should see that they are ok and settled in.” After a second’s thought, she asked, “Into their room or should we at least knock?” It should certainly give them a scare either way.
